Overview

The Real-time Location Insights APIs provide population count estimates within an area in near real time. There are two APIs within our Real-Time Location Insights: 

1. The census API provides data aggregated to a minimum geography of Lower Super Output Area (LSOA) 

2. The H3 API provides data aggregated to an H3 grid at resolution 10. For further information on H3 grids please visit this link Introduction | H3 (h3geo.org)

Additionally, the census API provides additional attributes about the population: age, gender, home & work, international visitors, and percentage of the total population that is dwelling compared to the moving population. 

Key Features

This API provides data on: 

  • Population count estimates within an area in near real time. Datasets are available at 15-minute frequencies. They are also refreshed every 15 minutes. 
  • MSOA, LSOA, LAD and Hex - The two APIs provide different ways of classifying areas. The census API provides data aggregated to a minimum geography of Lower Super Output Area (LSOA) and higher geography areas of Middle Super Outputs Area (MSOA) and Local Authority District (LAD). While the H3 API provides data aggregated to an H3 grid at resolution 10. 
  • Demography - the census API provides a breakdown of the observed population by age, gender, home & work, international visitors and percentage of the dwelling population compared to the moving population.  

To protect the privacy of our customers and to prevent any identification of individuals, data is aggregated on the volume of population for a given segment. Any volume relating to users under 18 is removed.
